Nesta Carter's Doping Appeal Dismissed By CAS, Jamaica to Lose 2008 Olympic Relay Gold Medal

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced the dismissal of Nesta Carter's drug suspension appeal Thursday, according to Athletics Weekly.

Carter tested positive for the prohibited substance methylhexaneamine in a retest of a sample he gave at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He was part of the Jamaican 4x100 relay that won gold in a then world record 37.10.

The International Olympic Committee announced Carter's positive test in January 2017. Carter filed his appeal in February of last year, but it was more than a year later that a three-judge panel from CAS made a ruling on the case.

Carter's positive drug test means Usain Bolt will lose his 2008 Beijing Olympic 4x100 relay gold medal along with Michael Frater and Asafa Powell. Trinidad and Tobago, Japan and Brazil finished behind Jamaica and are in position for medal upgrades.

Carter also ran on gold medal winning relays at the 2012 Olympic Games and the 2011, 2013 and 2015 IAAF World Outdoor Championships. The 2011 and 2012 relays performances resulted in world records.

Individually, he won silver in the 60 meters at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships and bronze in the 100 at the 2013 IAAF World Outdoor Championships.
