Between my room and the cafeteria in the Olympic media village, there are four sets of doors, all of which open automatically as you approach them. These are not mechanical - the place is not wired up like the Starship Enterprise.

Instead they are operated by smiley young volunteers, who stand there day and night ready to open their door with an excited flourish the moment they see someone heading in their direction.
