USA TODAY BEIJING — Just when it looked like the U.S.
shot putters, considered capable of a sweep, were going to be shut out
Friday, Christian Cantwell came to the rescue in the first track and
field final of the Games.
In fifth place before his sixth and final throw, the 6-5, 300-pounder salvaged the competition with a mark that gave him the silver medal.
